Solutions Pet Products | Potty Mouth - 8oz
What is this product used for?
For discouraging consumption of poo. “Coprophagia” can be due to behavioral issues, digestive concerns, parasites or nutritional deficiencies. This product strives to address all of these potential causes.
There are several reasons that a pet might eat poo.
- Natural fecal transplant (bacterial imbalance)
- Parasites - Poor nutrient absorption
- Behavioral
- Covering up a friends health problem
This supplement can’t help with all of these issues but it does help with some of them. This product is designed to assist with coprophagia (poo eating) caused by parasites, poor absorption and/or behavioral. If your pet has an intestinal bacterial imbalance you may consider sending a fecal sample to Animal Biome for fecal sequencing. If your pet is covering up a health problem for another pet, you may consider getting some lab tests done with your vet.
Ingredient Highlights
Diatomaceous Earth
Diatomaceous Earth is a powdery substance made from tiny creatures called diatoms. Diatoms are microalgae which are found in waterways and soils around the world. Diatoms are microscopic and have hard outer shells. These shells are abrasive. Like a nail file, their tiny sharp edges can “grind down” and “scrape” the exoskeleton of parasites. Once the exoskeleton is damaged, the parasite will dehydrate and die. Meanwhile, soft tissues such as the digestive tract or skin will not be damaged by it. Diatomaceous Earth is a non-chemical way to kill anything with an exoskeleton. Solutions uses Organic, Food Grade DE.
PAPAYA - FRUIT
Carica Papaya
Papaya Leaf is often used for digestive health. In POTTY MOUTH, Solutions uses the fruit. This is because the fruit contains an enzyme called Papain. Papain is a proteolytic enzymes, which means it assists with the breakdown and absorption of protein. If your pet is consuming poo because they are not efficiently breaking down and absorbing the nutrients in the proteins they consume, this will help.
ZUCCHINI
Cucurbita pepo
We’re not entirely sure why, but as far as we can tell Zucchini is the most effective way to resolve behavioral coprophagia. Maybe zucchini makes poop taste worse (what a weird sentence to mutter) or maybe there is a constituent in zucchini that alters the desire to do it. Either way, of all of the veggie solutions we’ve tried in 20 years, we think zucchini works the best. In addition, you gain the benefits of nutritious folate, riboflavin, vitamin C, vitamin A, thiamine and some minerals!
Spirulina
Arthrospira platensis
Spirulina is a nutritive edible microalgae. It is grown in controlled conditions for safety. It’s over 60% protein and contains a variety of amino acids, polysaccharides, B-vitamins and minerals. It provides an assortment of easily absorbable micronutrients - this is incredibly valuable for pets that are not properly absorbing their foods. In addition, some of the micronutrients in Spirulina impact brain health and instill a sense of calm, thus potentially improving behavioral coprophagia.
Montmorillonite Clay
Montmorillonite is a soft, phyllosilicate clay. It’s been shown to provide some resistance to environmental toxins, such as aflatoxin molds and heavy metals, when consumed. It’s high in oxygen, silicon, hydrogen, calcium, sodium and other minerals. It provides an excellent source of micronutrients, including those that can improve absorption and circulation.
