Propythium Moisturising Oil – Natural Patented Yeast Killer
The key, patented component of this product is a harmless little microscopic algae called Pythium oligandum. It normally lives in the soil where it works via mycoparasitism, consuming other fungi and yeast for survival. It also has an antibacterial effect in the area while it is present. Once it has eaten all the fungi/yeast present it encapsulates and returns to the earth where it came from.
Useful for: all topical fungal or yeast infections of dogs, cats and horses, including yeasty skin, feet and ears. Suitable for dry, sensitive, chapped or eczema-prone skin. Also suitable for those suffering atopic skin conditions or allergies.
How Propythium Works…
Pythium is a non-pathogenic (doesn’t harm plants or animals), microscopic, yeast-like organism that normally lives in the soil. There are over 50 species of it so far discovered but among the most useful are those discovered around the roots of many plants around the world, in particular Pythium oligandrum.
It works via mycoparasitism. In essence, it consumes other fungi for survival. It attacks those organisms, extracting nutrients such as nitrogen, carbon, and nutrients for reproduction, and killing the organism in the process. It then creates zoospores that actively seek out more of that fungi and it’s spores.
Beyond mycoparasitism, P. oligandum further secretes enzymes curb bacterial growth in the area so it is not disturbed while it’s doing its thing. Most importantly, studies show, asides a reduction of pathogenic bacteria present, it does not induce significant shifts in the hose bacterial flora in the process (Vallance et al. 2009 & 2012).
Once resources deplete, P. oligandrum encapsulates and soon leaves its host to its natural environment, at which point all normal microflora returns activity can return to the area.
Other cool ingredients include medicinal grade oliver oil, vitamin E and silica, all of which work to repair the damaged skin area.
How do I know if this is a yeast issue?!
The problem with fungal skin infections with symptoms such as irritated, itchy skin and ears is that they can look like bacterial infections to the untrained eye. Itchy feet, a class place for yeast issues to develop, are just as often caused by food intolerances or upset gut flora. So first, you should familiarise yourself with what the classic tell tale signs of a fungal skin infection are.
